Trying local cuisine is an important part of any holiday. Whether you have just arrived in Australia, brought friends on a tour, or just want to expand your horizons, Australia has many unique food options to satisfy all tastes.

Skyscanner Australia has searched the country for the most delicious food we can (to some extent) claim to be our own. Our only warning? You may not want to read this article when you are hungry.

1. Chicken Parmesan

This classic Australian chicken dish is derived from Italian and American cooking and is a staple on almost all bar menus in the country. Originally based on eggplant (these are still available for vegetarians), it has evolved into a chicken cutlet topped with tomato sauce, melted cheese, and ham if you like. This is usually eaten with salads and fries, although there is a disagreement between people who think fries should be put under parmy and those who think they should be put aside.

2. Grilled meat (also known as sausage)

It’s no surprise that Australians like barbecue. For a good Barbie, nothing is more important than a decent sausage-whether you are eating sausage sizzling at a friend’s house or at a local Bunnings. Ringing. Traditional Australian sausages are usually pork or beef, but if you are adventurous, there are other animals to try. Wrap your meat with a slice of noodles, and put some fried onions and your favorite sauce at the end.

According to the Australian Meat Industry Council’s Sausage King Competition, the best beef cut is in Wollongong, and the best pork sausage comes from Mawson in ACT.

3. A burger with "a lot"

If tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and juicy meat pies are not enough for a burger, then maybe you should try "a lot" of Australian bowel nemesis. Take a hamburger and stuff it with grilled meat, salad, sauce, and for Australian flavor, add a slice of pineapple, some pickled beetroot and a fried egg. Perfect choice after a long day of surfing or relaxing on the beach.

According to MTV, the best burgers in Australia can be found at Burger Me Fresh in Coolangatta. A meal may go a long way, but people are definitely less motivated to travel than this.

4. Barramundi

Forget the fish and chips and enjoy fresh Australian barramundi, the name means "large river fish" in the aboriginal language of Rockhampton. Grilled, fried or grilled with the skin first, this is a healthier alternative to fried fish, and it is also a true Australian meal.

Whether you are catching your own fish or sitting down to let others handle the hard work, heading to Queensland will provide you with the best fish in the country.

5. Pumpkin soup

Australian food is not just grilled meat and seafood. There are also a variety of vegetarian dishes, including a hearty bowl of pumpkin soup. It is best served in the colder months and is easiest to find when you head south, and eating a bowl of pumpkin soup by the fire can be incredibly satisfying. Add a Granny Smith apple originally grown outside of Sydney to get the authentic Australian version.

6. Vegetarian food on toast

Not a particularly complicated dish, but still a well-loved service, Vegemite on toast is perfect for breakfast, lunch or anytime snack. Similar to English Marmite, Vegemite is a vegetarian alternative made from yeast extract, not actually a vegetable.

To make your own Australian food, bake two slices of bread, relax with butter, but be frugal with Vegemite. This is not something you want to beat like peanut butter or chocolate sauce.

Vegemite was invented by the people of Melbourne. It is rich in vitamin B and has many health benefits, including the belief that it helps prevent mosquitoes from entering.
